Hello fellow Travel Freaks! With summer right around the corner, it’s time to pack your bags and take a trip somewhere tropical or adventurous or wherever your wanderlust is taking you. But ladies–we all know how difficult it is to stay as fabulous as we are in economy airplane seats. So read this guide on what to keep in your carry on to turn the airplane runway into your personal red carpet!

1. Bento Box with healthy snacks

A Bento Box keeps all your snacks from getting smushed in your carry on, so it’s a must-have for the savvy traveller. Apples travel well if you’re opting to go without the box. Buy one in any assortment of colors at Laptop Lunches!

2. Chic reusable water bottle

If you don’t have a reusable water bottle by now, I don’t know how you’ve survived this far. Reusable water bottles are eocfriendly and save you ridiculous costs at the airport or on the plane. Plus, then whatever adventures you go on during your trip you’ll have it! Check out these super cute designs from EarthLust–added bonus: they even have reusable baby bottles!

3. Pashmina

Pashmina: the miracle fabric! On the airplane, a blanket or a pillow. Off the plane, a cute scarf! What more could you want? Find awesome designs here at Scarves.com.

4. Sanitation products galore

Alright, I’m not a germaphobe, but planes are super gross and who wants to be sick with something during vacation? My list: Emergen-C, anti-bacterial wipes (travel size), hand sanitizer (travel size). You can find really awesome smelling hand sanitizers at Bath & Body Works.

5. Eye Mask

Eye masks are absolutely essential for long haul flights (or short ones; go ahead girl you need your beauty sleep!) Try this cute fox mask from Etsy!

6. Wipes for your Face/Glasses/Body

We all know that planes make you feel not so fresh. Bring travel size face wipes, glasses wipes, sanitary wipes and body wipes with a refreshing scent.

7. Fresh Breath Must-haves

Especially on long-haul flights when you know you’ll be sleeping, bring a travel size toothbrush and mini toothpaste. To help pop your ears and keep your breath fresh, bring a travel size pack of gum or mints.

8. A Spare Change of Clothes

As a rule I always pack the one thing that I’d absolutely hate to lose. In addition, I like to have a few changes of clothes just in case they lose my luggage or I want/need to change mid-flight. (Turbulence sure is way worse when you’re holding a cup of coffee.)  Bonus tip: bring a crappy pair of socks to wear on the plane so your feet don’t get gross. Check out A Beautiful Mess for more outfits!

9. All of your valuables

Always always ALWAYS pack your jewelry, documents and electronics in your carry on. You never know who is handling your packed luggage or if they’ll be lost! Check out these super cute jewelry pouches.

10. Entertainment!

Last, but not least: entertainment. I love to bring a book, my Nintendo DS (don’t judge) and iPod for endless hours of entertainment, especially since I can’t afford the astronomical prices of inflight movies. Boo.

What’s your carry on essential?

  1. For me it’s lip balm. The air is so dry on the plane and my lips often are dry and sore after a long flight without it. And my iPad mini full of my favourite shows to keep me entertained!
