99 bottles of beer on the wall is the first song you learn to annoy your parents with in the car on a road trip. Now it can be the restaurant and pub you go to the next time you are in Santa Cruz, California! When I first walked into 99 bottles the first thing that I noticed was the wall of plaques that takes up almost an entire wall. These plaques make up the Wall of Fame which you can aspire to be be a part of but only if you first try all 99 beers that they have on their menu.

When you pay a visit ask for a 99 bottles card and each time that you try a new beer from their menu the staff will mark it off until your card is filled. Once you complete all 99 beers you will receive a t-shirt, a signed certificate, and an engraved plaque on the wall. I would do it for the t-shirt alone because well everyone loves a new t-shirt. Even though the t-shirt is an exciting incentive please do not try all 99 beers in one night. You will die.

The beer menu offers 46 beers that are on tap and the rest can be found in a bottle, much like the 99 bottles that line the walls. 99 bottle tries to stock as many local beers from Northern California as possible as well as offer your favorite beers from the around the world. If you are having a difficult time deciding what to drink then you can do a draft sampler set that’s $6.75 for a set of three and $10.25 for a set of five. You can also jump in and look over the menu which gives you a bit of background on each beer.

If the 99 beer challenge was not enough to keep you busy then you can take the kegger challenge to help sober up or it might make you sick. It can go either way. The kegger challenge is 2 pounds of fresh ground beef, served on a giant 9′ bun with cheddar cheese and all the fixings. It’s a monster but you can also choose to tap the keggar with the help of friends. Once you finish you can also achieve fame by landing on the wall of fame. You don’t get a t-shirt though so I mean what is really the point?

Even if you are not in the mood to drink or have been saddled with the task of being the designated driver 99 bottles offers a friendly atmosphere that serves as a nice place to relax and enjoy some food and good company. Check it out the next time your in Santa Cruz!
