It’s no secret that great gelato is plentiful in Rome, there seems, in fact, to be endless possibilities, but at the end of the day there still has to be a number one, the best of the best. I swear to you on planes, trains and all things travel, on maps and on backpacks and all that is pure in the heart of a travel freak… Gelateria Del Teatro has hands down the best freaking gelato in Rome. And in Italy. And in Europe. And in the world. And in outer space.
They showcase their ingredients in the window, so you know this is real, you know it’s fresh, you know it’s legit. They often offer seasonal flavors on a temporary basis too, so there’s no time to be wasted, don’t wait. I’ll be stopping by on my way to work tomorrow to try the pumpkin and chocolate, and then stopping again on my way home to probably try it again, just to make sure I tasted it right, just in case. Heck to the freaking yes, Napolean, this is real life.
Do you know how many times I had to come back to get a picture of all the options for you? (Yeah like oh I haaad to come back oh darn, lol no, delicious). This place is really popular and during peak hours you literally have to take a number, other times of the day it’s not overwhelmingly packed but still definitely populated, for this I came right when they opened. (Waited outside like a creep, it was so smooth.)
If you have the means, please, plan your entire trip around daily stops here so you can try everything, but if that’s too much to manage and you really have to choose, go for the Lavender and White Peach combined with the Garden Sage and Raspberry. Literally mamma mia though. You won’t find flavors this unique anywhere else.
The cheese options will also be everything you hoped for and more.
And the chocolates… I can’t even. Wait yes I can. Try the chocolate and orange and combine it with pistachio. *Faints*
The absolute best way you can spend your life is to grab a cone from Teatro and wander this magnificent city, taking it all in, both to your heart and your tummy.
