Venice, Italy is one city that looks like it came straight out of a story book. The architecture and artwork are awe inspiring, and bring in thousands of tourists a year. Venice is a city in northeastern Italy on a group of small islands connected by canals and bridges. Paris might be considered the most romantic city, but Venice has been voted as being up there as well. The predominant part of Venice’s history that is still seen all over the city was during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, where it served as a huge naval power and trade port. It was the center of commerce, where silks and spices were traded here from all over the world, making it one of the wealthiest cities throughout most of its history. What Venice is most known for is it’s artistic movements during the Renaissance, giving birth to the works of Bellini and Tintoretto. Furthermore, famous composer Vivaldi was born in the majestic city. So what is there to do while visiting Venice? Any tours of the Grand Canal are a must, seeing as part of the city’s charm is that it’s main way of transportation is by canal. Other must sees are St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, and Torre dell’Orologio, which are some of the city’s main attractions.
