The Cliffs of Moher in Ireland are a stunning site. The Cliffs of Moher are located in Country Clare, Ireland, and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. It receives almost one million visitors from all over the world a year. The rocks that make up the Cliffs of Moher were formed over 300 million years ago. In the midpoint of the cliffs is O’Brien’s Tower, a round tower built in 1835 by Sir Cornelius O’Brien for an important reason – to impress the ladies. From the top of the tower, visitors can see the Aran Islands in Galway Bay, and the Twelve Pins mountain ranges in Galway as well. The cliffs serve an important purpose for the environment as well. The North platform is located at the highest point of the Cliffs, where the south point has a different view – Puffin colony, where you can see these birds make their home on Goat Island, a grassy island nearby that can be seen when you look down and to the right. There are an estimated 30,000 birds living there, representing over 20 species. The cliffs have appeared in some films, including The Princess Bride and, more recently, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The views are spectacular, and admission is reasonably cheap (around €6), and free for anyone under the age of sixteen. In the visitor’s center, the Cliffs View Cafe on the first floor, where you can sit and enjoy the views of the Cliffs of Moher from indoors.
