JFK Airport may have the first-ever animal terminal, but LaGuardia Airport is getting a major facelift.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Monday that the nearly 76-year-old airport will receive a four billion dollar redesign. “LaGuardia is slow. It’s dated. It is a terrible front door entranceway,” Governor Cuomo said. “We are transforming LaGuardia into a globally-renowned, 21st century airport that is worthy of the city and state of New York.”

Revealing the new plans with him was Vice President Joe Biden, who in 2014, said the airport made him feel like he was in “some third-world country.”

With changes such as a state-of-the art single terminal, four-star dinning and shopping, meeting facilities, and better garages, the new LaGuardia certainly will not feel like a third-world country. Even more important than the infrastructure is, with the new design, there will be more room for plans to taxi on the runway, freeing up gates. Also, it will be easier to actually get to the airport thanks to new transportation options.

“Best of all, it’s not a plan, it’s not a sketch, it’s not a dream, it’s not a vision,” Governor Cuomo said.  “It is actually happening.”

LaGuardia Airport has been named the worst airport in America by Travel & Leisure, so you can imagine Cuomo and Biden’s desires to get things up and running, and it will all be up and running by 2021.
