How many times have you dreamed of quitting your boring 9-5 jobs to travel the world and actually LIVE a little? Probably more times than you can count. Well, more and more people are actually taking the plunge and are leaving their mundane days behind so they can see the world. And while it sounds pretty incredible, it’s not exactly all wanderful.

For example, meet Stevo Dirnberger and Chanel Cartell, who quit their advertising jobs in Johannesburg to travel fora year. They run the blog How Far From Home, which is filled with beautiful photos of all the places they’ve been (Greece, Austria and Sweden just to name a few).

But yesterday, they took to their blog to explain while they are having an amazing time, they are also working extremely hard to make their dreams come true. “After being gone exactly 6 months, I feel it necessary we share the uglier side of our trip. Browsing through our blog posts and Instagram feed, it seems like we’re having the time of our lives. And don’t get me wrong – we are. It’s bloody amazing. But it’s not all ice-creams in the sun and pretty landscapes,” Cartelle wrote.

Not by far. She claims the couple have tallied “135 toilets scrubbed, 250 kilos of cow dung spread, 2 tons of rocks shovelled, 60 metres of pathway laid, 57 beds made, and I cannot even remember how many wine glasses we’ve polished.”

She also wrote that the couple pretty much survives on five hours of sleep and jam on crackers. She also lets people know about how stressful it is to carry around their luggage and find transportation.

Now, if you think the duo was trying to deter you from following you’re dreams, you’re wrong. Basically, they want all of their followers to know how much work it is to make things happen, and that doing something like this isn’t for the faint of heart. That being said, they wouldn’t change anything. “… even though we probably have more greys than when we started, dirt under our nails despite long showers, and cheap snack food as a main form of nutrition, this crazy lifestyle allows us to enjoy the freedom of exploring rich Swedish forests, never-ending Nordic fjords, Italian cobbled alleyways, and cosmopolitan cities. We have time to brainstorm our own ideas, and push our own creative experiments. It’s like heaven for us.”

BRB… quitting our jobs… NOW.
