After a week of Greek island hopping I really couldn’t tell you which would be my favorite. I went to a number of different islands, including Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos, and Peloponnisos (Okay, that one’s a peninsula… so what? Close enough!) and while they were all amazing in pretty much every way, each place seemed to have its own specialty that made it a little bit more of its own (aside from all of the islands’ unique appearances). If you find yourself in any of these towns or islands this summer, here are my primary suggestions for each.

1. Corfu – Beach & Water Activities

Corfu’s beaches are crystal clear and uncrowded. They’re lined with bathing suit-friendly bars and snack places, and also have plenty of water sport rental options like snorkel/scuba gear, jet skis, and parasailing.

2. Santorini – Shopping & Eating

Whether you’re in the market for fine jewelry that costs more than your vacation, a classic white Greek linen shirt to keep you cool in summer or a weird donkey trinket for your little brother, Santorini has you covered on every corner. When you’ve found everything on your list kickback with some authentic Greek food beside a once in a lifetime view.

3. Mykonos – Parties

Hit the beach in Mykonos after a day of exploring, but don’t plan to relax for too long because once that sun starts to go down the music starts to come up and a tranquil seaside strip turns into an epic disco. Outdoor discos are the best in summer because they never become overly hot and it’s easy enough to get some space when you need it.

I did not take photos here because I’m not a creeper, and while I think it’s better that no one sees photos ever, I still think you should go. Know what I mean? Like you should go but then never look at evidence that you went. One of those.

4.Peloponnisos – Olympia

You can’t visit Greece without some ancient history. Olympia, the hometown of the Olympics, is a great choice because it’s easy to get to and tour with a guide or on your own.

Which Greek island will you visit?

American by chance, but Roman by choice, Sarah is currently feeding her adventurous soul with expatriatism and pizza. Her finest moments are always on the wrong bus with a backpack and an upside down map, waiting to see what the world’s got for her next, so long as she can blog about it. She likes writing more than talking, dolphins more than humans, old movies more than new, and Rome more than anything else.

  1. Great article with some good ideas for those looking to see the Greek islands. My personal favourite is the little island of Skiathos
