Every New Yorker is trying to figure out if they can move to Chongqing, China after they decided to test out cellphones lanes on one of their sidewalks

The Travel Freak HQ is located right near Times Square, which is a place that no one who lives in the city ever wants to go. It is where slow-walking cellphone walkers gather to send Snapchats and Instagrams and selfies. Granted we have been known to send a text or two, but we try to wait until we are at a light.

Texting and playing your cellphone can be dangerous. You aren’t as aware of your surroundings which can make you a target for pick pockets and, well, cars. You also walk much slower which holds up the people behind you. If you want to make a New Yorker angry in 3 seconds flat, just walk really slowly on the sidewalk, we guarantee you will learn some new words. While we love sidewalks with cellphone lanes in a conceptual sense, we aren’t sure how well they will work in actual execution. Could you imagine being in that lane? Sounds like a nightmare. You also know that not everyone is going to comply. It will only take one stray cellphone user to ruin it for the rest of us.

We are interested to see how this works out in China, and if they expand it to other cities. Until then, we will just keep dreaming of empty New York sidewalks or at the very least a tourist lane.

Do you think this is a good idea?
