At a quick glance, you could easily mistake Alban Henderyckx’s photos for a scene taken straight out of a sci-fi movie. However, what may seem out of this world is actually home to the incredibly picturesque country of Iceland. In his short montage, Wandering in Another World, Henderyckx, a French landscape photographer, captures the scenic landscapes of Vatnajökull, Iceland in their most beautiful and natural forms. Vatnajökull, also known as the Vatna Glacier, is the largest and most voluminous Icelandic glacier and one of the largest in Europe. Located on the south-east side of the country, the Vatna Glacier covers eight percent of the island.
Also, using nature as his canvas, Henderyckx captures Highland geysers, which are vents in the Earth’s surface that periodically eject hot water and steam, and, not to mention, bubbling hot springs. All of his images are taken from a RAW file and then processed in Lightroom. A RAW file is an unprocessed image seen by a camera’s sensor, allowing an artist to process the image to their own liking. “I instinctively followed the energy of my subconscious to immerse myself more in a world without artifice, nature and the vastness of the landscape,” Henderyckx explained to the Daily Mail.
Through his crystal clear and vibrant-colored images, he portrays a magical, iridescent atmosphere that not only captivates the eye, but also, makes you want to witness these breathtaking views yourself. Due to Iceland’s location on the Mid-Atlantic ridge, it is extremely active geologically, with more than 125 volcanic mountains, waterfalls, hot springs, glaciers, and geysers. Iceland’s unique and natural features make it an ideal location for photographers, and for any wanderlust traveler seeking a new adventure.
