Ready to hunk around that heavy backpack and go see the world? Here’s the 8 people you’ll meet at your hostel:
1) The Over-packer
This person is usually only on a trip for a week, yet they have somehow managed to bring their entire closet with them halfway around the world.
Pro: Don’t have something to wear to the bar crawl? This person does.
Con: This person’s bags takes up half the room in your hostel. Travel lightly, please!
2) The One that Doesn’t Shower:
We get it- backpacking isn’t a fashion statement. We’ve all gotten a little grungy. But now you’ve been here for a week; can you at least put some deodorant on?
Pro: There is none.
Con: Self -explanatory.
3) The Creep
You know that feeling you get when you know you’re being watched? The exact reason I try to avoid the bottom bunk at ALL times. Again, there are NO pro’s here…nighty, night!
4) The Really Smart One:
This person is highly intelligent, and usually they know it.
Pro: You won’t have to hire a tour guide to see the city you’re staying in.
Con: You are traveling with a know-it-all.
5) The Really Dumb One:
We’ve all met someone who asks ridiculous questions. Sure, it’s okay to ask a fellow traveler where they are from and what their culture is like, but there is a fine line between being curious and just being dumb. When you’re staying at a hostel, it’s important to remember that you will be sharing your space with people from all different walks of life. Remember when Karen from Mean Girls asked Lindsey Lohan why she was white, just because she was from Africa? That’s barely okay in a movie.
Pro: “There’s no such thing as a bad question…?”
Con: You can either offend someone or make a fool out of yourself. Know your stuff- don’t let this be you!
6) The Hot One:
If you’re lucky enough, you will have someone that you find extremely attractive to be staying at your hostel.
Pro: Going out with your crush and becoming great friends.
Con: Going home with your crush and having a really awkward breakfast the next morning.
7) The Party Animal:
This person is ready to experience the nightlife in this city whether you like it or not.
Pro: A good time.
Con: Getting kicked out of your hostel.
8) The Love Birds
They either came together, or they met somewhere along their travels. It’s what we all aim for in life. Must be nice!
What kind of people have you met along your travels?
